Palanpur: Twelve cows died and over 250 others fell sick after consuming contaminated cattle feed produced by Sabarkantha District Co-operative Milk Producers' Union Ltd (SDCMPUL) popularly known as Sabar Dairy. The dairy authorities have assured appropriate compensation to cattle owners.
Jethabhahi Patel, chairman of Sabar Dairy on Thursday, said, "After testing the cattle feed it was found that protein was in excess causing death of dozen cows and 250 others falling sick."
"The cattle owners will be paid compensation. We have asked the evaluators to evaluate the loss to farmer due to death of the animal. Also, affected animals will be provided free medical facilities," Patel, who is also chairman of the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd, told TOI.
The consignment of the fodder has been being withdrawn from market, he added. Farmers have been asked not to use 'Sabardan' the cattle feed produced by the dairy.
"Cattle of nearly six villages of Sabarkantha and Aravalli districts including Kadiyagra, Bhetali, Bhodasan, Narsihpura, Radodra and Helodar have been affected the most," said sources.
